Welcome to Project SEARCH at Fidgetech

We are excited to partner with Project SEARCH to offer an innovative program dedicated to increasing workplace inclusivity and readiness. This nine-month, unpaid internship helps individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities gain valuable employability skills through hands-on training and partnerships with local businesses.

Transition to Work Program Overview

The Transition-to-Work Program is designed to assist young people with significant disabilities in transitioning into adult life. Interns engage in real work experiences and training in employability and independent living skills, preparing them for competitive roles in diverse and rewarding fields.

Eligibility

Project SEARCH at Fidgetech is for young individuals experiencing autism or significant intellectual and developmental disabilities, typically in their final year of high school with an Individual Education Program (IEP). We also welcome out-of-school youth and young adults. A strong desire to work is essential for acceptance.

Internship and Job Development

Interns undergo three job rotations to develop marketable skills and essential workplace abilities such as communication and problem-solving. In the final months, we focus on skill refinement and job placement, supported by career counseling and community service connections. Successful interns receive a Career Portfolio, which includes a resume, letters of recommendation, a competency profile, and special recognitions.

What is the Project Search Experience?

Interns rotate through three departments over three months, spending the first hour of their six-hour day in class learning job skills like teamwork and workplace safety. Each intern is part of a fully integrated team and receives real-time guidance and support from a mentor and two skills trainers. The day concludes with journaling and a review of daily achievements and challenges.
